Sneaky other knight. Makes sense now, thanks!

Thanks a million for sharing and annotating the game! I found it helpful because your annotations and game seemed to reflect several ideas mentioned in the book that I'm reading (eg. forming plans based on the position, adapting plans in response to "weird" moves like 12. ...g5, etc.), except with an easier-to-understand explanation and clear example. The game made me realize how little attention I usually pay to defense! (Had I managed to form the correct plan in the first place, I would have completely gone with 16. b4? )
A question: After the continuation
9... c5 10. Nb5 Nc8 11. Bf4 e5 12. dxe5 dxe5 13. Bg5 f6 14. Be3 Bxe4 15. Ng5
Why doesn't the position favor black after 15. ...Bxg2? I imagine that white's best play would be something along the lines of 16. Ne6 Qe7 17. Nxg7+ Qxg7 18. Kxg2, where black is a pawn up.
Does having the only bishop and open file count as compensation?
