Corvallis Versus Eugene Rd 2

Well, after my victory in round one, I was feeling pretty good. We had about an hour break after my first game finished before round 2 started, I got pizza and orange juice. If orange juice works for Magnus, it will work for me. Anyway, the second opponent in my section was Jack. I think he is a high school student, he definitely is stronger than I was back then. Darn whippersnappers. Anyway, the game started at 1:45, and here it is!

This game only took about 90 minutes for us to play, so it was just after 3. I stuck around and played some blitz and watched the other boards for a while. At about 4 pm, I went home as I had things to do in the evening and couldn't play round 3. I chatted with my potential opponent Ivan, and he seemed to have had poor results in the first 2 rounds, so he was fine with us not playing. I think Dan or Stan may played up a division in the final round just to make things even, for the rivalry. or We may just have ended up with a bye. Still no word about what the match result was. I think we went down on the top boards, and won the middle.

You guys make it seem like I outplayed him, but really I just played solidly and waited for him to blunder.

Another good game, you exploited his weakness and came out on top.  Congrats...

The d5 weakness was key to the win. This was a nice example of what identifying and pressuring a weak square can do :)
