Pianoman's Posts

This is the place to go to read about chess. I regularly post about anything that relates to chess, specializing in  but not limited to, chess instruction. Most of my posts are primarily instructional, but with enough humor to keep any reader entertained. Other posts however are mainly there to present chess news in a comical fashion. To describe the content of my blog in a few words, I would say it is instructive, humorous, concise, and altogether an enjoyable read. I hope you agree. • The Plans And Ideas Of: The Alekhine Defence

For a while, the Alekhine Defence was regarded by top GMs as a weak line that basically got you steamrolled in the center. Now however, this opening is thought of as quite playable, even up to U2600 level. The reason for this is simple. White h... | Read More

    • Move 4 Caro-Kann Surprise

Although a good amount of well known Caro lines are good for white, every now and then it's fun to through out a novelty. Most of the time white will simply take space or an initiative, and black will have queenside play to compensate. With this... | Read More

    • Sicilian Surprise: The Prins Variation

How many times have you played white and, after e4 c5 sighed resignedly at the prospects of another boring Sicilian? Alright, truthfully you've probably never even given it that much thought, but that's not the point. The point is that you can, ... | Read More
