Game 15 for my Club - my 5th Loss...

Yesterday on Monday 16th April, I played another game for my club - the penultimate game of the season - and unfortunately things didn't go according to plan...

My opponent was an ungraded player so I didn't know what to expect, I think I took too many risks during the game - although calculated risks, I missed some strong replys by my opponent which I wouldn't normally miss, the venue was loud for a start and very cramped - not ideal chess playing conditions but hey - I made my own mistakes... and blunders - and this game shows me playing well below my normal standard...

After 27.Ne4?? the game was over, but I wanted to play it out and hope for drawing chances in the rook+pawns endgame which I have managed to pull off many times!

I later found out my opponent used to be graded 128 ECF (1674 FIDE) just a few years ago and this is his first season back as an active player...

But - I have a chance to end the season on a win - next week Wink

Well my oficial grade is 116 ECF (1578 FIDE)... my opponents official grade is 133 ECF (1714 FIDE) - he never lost a game all season and beat stronger players than me... when I played this game I'd only been playing less than 1 year... and it's amazing what analysis you can find with an engine isn't it Wink

I analyze my own games wihout engines - "old-skool" Wink So when I post a blog, it's actually all my own thoughts and words - not analyzed by an engine then commented on every little inaccuracy. 4.Bd2 is a book move - look it up Wink

    Hi!

I don't really see 26.Bf5 as an exclam move. It achieves nothing. He could play Rc1+ and Nf6 if he wants to. Bf5 is a move you make for the sake of beauty, which I can understand and have been guilty of too. But you have to ask yourself wehther this move achieves anything. Answer is no ;). I have watched a lot of dzindshi videos lately and seen some of your comments. That's why I checked your blog. If Dzindshi saw Bf5 he would make fun of it :D.

you say 27.Ne4 is a mistake and you should have gone for positional win. While it is true that Ne4 is a mistake, I don't see any positional winning chances for white. If I could choose which color to play it would definately be black. Your passed d-pawn is not a strength but a wweakness, your rook is misplaced on g3 and black has a good bishop, the c-file, a good chance of making use of the weak d5 square via Nf6 to d5.

I didn't really analyze the opening, although I think Bd2 is not a good move. much too passive. But anyway. you didn't lose the game on move 26 or 27. you already have a very questionable position at that point. Against any decent player you can only hope to make a draw at that point, certainly no winning chances. I also don't see what Bxg6 would achieve. I don't think it would win you 3 pawns.

ok now, sorry for being that critical towards the game, but it has to be said ;).

Well my opponent is unbeaten all season that says something in itself... but yeah I should have played it slow and won but losses can be good because they make you take a look at your game and really scrutinize where you went wrong, and where I went severly wrong was move 27. Bg5 line is not my style, I ain't gonna play a line I don't enjoy Wink

CHooper, Not sure what game your looking at but their are no free rooks anywhere in this game? Especially on move 10?  And 26.Bf5 is not taking the Rook off C file as he has Rc7.
