My Final Game of the Season - a WIN!! :)

Yes that's right I ended the season on a high with an awesome win!! After 3 losses in a row I had a big think about my approach to the game... gone was greed and wild tactics and solid positional play was back on the menu and this win, tasted very very good Wink

Things weren't in my favour before the game though - 3 previous losses, last minute venue change, last minute change up to board 4 and playing an opponent I lost to earlier in the season.

I thought I was playing white on board 5 when I got changed to black on board 4 - but I went in with my relaxed approach, and played the position, not the person...

The game was over long before checkmate but as a psychological thing it was important to end my first season back in chess with a victory and getting to say "checkmate" just made the whole thing 100x better!

Hopefully I'll be in a tourney or 2 over the summer but I have until the end of September to play, learn, study and take my game up yet another level for the 2012/13 season. Smile

I'm a bit surprised white didn't go for e4-e5 thrust, both 6. e5 and 7. e5 would have been strong.

@bassosoolo - thanks for the constructive comment, I didn't see this line at the time but yes I would have had an extra bishop it seems! Well spotted Cool

Nice game! I think as an improvement, 19 ...Rxc6 looks crushing, white is having back rank issues in every case it seems, for example 20. Qxc6 Bxc6 21. Rxd8 Rxd8 and white can't recollect his piece because of the weak back rank. Changing the order of captures seems not to work, for example 20. Rxd7 runs into Rxc2!

Out of my 17 games I played for Didcot 1+2 this season I won 9, lost 6 and drew 2 - so I managed to collect 10/17 points which is a success rate of almost 59%...

I think I can be happy with that and aim to improve on it next season!
