Here is a video of last year's title game to determine the Arimaa World Champion.
Although to a chess player the moves will probably appear downright bizarre, Arimaa is a serious and deep challenge, with a logic all its own.

When I taught my sister to play chess, we had a few games like this.

The guy doing the commentary is Jean Daligault of France, who not only won in 2009 but also recently repeated his win just a few days ago in 2010.
One of the neat things about Arimaa is that the game's theory is developing rapidly. If you are a good player, you might be able to make some personal contributions to this growing body of knowledge.
It seems like the Arimaa scene is pretty well organized, so the game might have some staying power.
