Only three are still standing who can win the US Women's Championship: Zatonskih, Krush, and Abrahamyan.  So the big game for today is Abrahamyan v Zatonskih.  The battle of the two Irenes (Irina Krush v Iryna Zenyuk) is also on tap, although Zenyuk has faded of late despite her victory yesterday over Baginskaite.

A tie and tie-breaker are definitely not out of the question.  Let's just hope it's not a repeat of 2008's Armageddon-gate.

Yeah, it ended in triple repetition.

Zatonskih and Krush are tied going into tomorrow's final round, where both women will be playing white against lower-rated competition.

Anna took the pawn (she's now up one), but Tatev has a series of checks.  Robbolito is still calling it dead even however.

Tatev gives up the defense of her g pawn, and tries to change up the position.

Anna is putting a lot of pressure on Tatev's pawns, and is forcing Tatev to spend a lot of time.  Psychologically, this has got to be tough for Abrahamyan.  This is exactly the point where I would blunder.

I think I would lose it with the queens there!!

Both women have made the time control, but Finegold is calling it a draw.

If I were playing this game with both queens on the board, I'd definitely find a way to lose it !

Anna avoids the trade and plays on !

Tatev gives Anna another chance to trade queens.

Uh-oh, I'm beginning to smell a playoff between Krush and Zatonskih.

I don't even know what the playoff rules are.  Possibly like in the US Championship where players submit auction bids to determine color and clock times?

The computer is now putting Abrahamyan slightly ahead, but with pieces being traded and moving toward the endgame, it looks like there a good chance of a draw.

Krush just won her game, so with a draw in the Abrahamyan game, there will be a tie between Krush and Zatonskih moving into the final round.

Krush wins Krush wins!!  10 minute deficit for Abrahamyan... Can she hold on?

Tatev is thinking a very long time and is possibly getting into time trouble.  She has about 20 minutes to Anna's 40 at move 21.

RobboLito is still saying equal after white 19.

Tatev didn't go for the trade.  She interposed with c4.  Then Anna checked with her queen and Tatev snugged her king into the corner.

Tatev is taking a long think over trading queens.  64-bit RobboLito is recommending she go for it, although the engine is saying the position is dead even.

Definitely my homegirl Tatev.  LA needs to get on the chess map.

I'm also hoping Brangelina starts pumping money into Left Coast chess, like Rex did in St. L.  Or maybe Hef will step up and save chess like he did the Hollywood sign.  After all, he hyped backgammon during the seventies.  I think chess could be big at the Playboy mansion.Smile
