Santana Row chess park, San Jose.  Very California.  One of the best outdoor chess environments ever.  Great security, no hustlers.  Play in the shade of an arbor, surrounded by flowers and splashing fountains.  Absolute chess heaven.

I was born a Valley Girl, which means that the mall is my agora and acropolis rolled into one.  I've seen people changing their kids' diapers on these tables, but I've never, ever seen anyone play chess on them.
