Improving the gameplay

Hii all.... i have been playing "live chess" at chess.com for a month now. My rating switches between 1400 and 1550 (in all 3 formats of the game ... )I really want to improve my rating atleast upto 1750 ... any suggestions of good books or something like dat?? This will be the helpful for players who want to improve like myself...
