À la recherche du temps perdu (my chess come back completed)

Hi to all.

After my previous post I finally decided to come back to play chess for real.

I played a little (only 5 rounds) week-end tournament and a rapid (15 minutes for a game) 9 rounds team tournament, in a team with a FM friend of mine and my sister.

I won both tournaments!

(Maybe you really don't care about all this stuff, but I'm happy and when I'm happy I write about it :) )

Really.

4,5 out of 5 in the long time control tournament (played against 1 GM,1 FM and three players rated in the 1900-2150 range), and 7,5 out of 9 in the rapid tournament (played against 1 IM,4 FM and four players rated in the 1900-2150 range).

So what can I say ? How do I managed to achieve scores that look like typo mistakes?

Well, I think that being less nervous and more mature allow me to play better than in my teenage years, even if in purely chess playing strength I'm out of shape.

Or maybe not.

Maybe it was just plain luck.

There is only a way to find out... playing again.

Congratulations on your 'tempo' recherche'! There was a GM who wouldn't even go into his kitchen for the week preceding a match because it had black and white tiles on the floor. He found he was much stronger if he left chess alone completely for a period before playing. Why not show one of your games? would make the comment much more interesting.

Yep, now that I'm retired I am returning to chess after a break of thirty years when I used to play grade and correspondance.

Maybe I have improved in the interum.

Yes, congratulations on your great result. I have some friends who also took a break from chess and then their first tournament back they made a great result. Maybe taking a break from chess actually helps in some sense.
