Last updated on Thu, 08/09/2007 at 10:21pm.

The Classical Variation of the Sicilian Defence refers to the moves 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 cd4 4 Nd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 Nc6.

  The move order could equally likely be 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 d4 cd4 4 Nd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 d6.  There are two main moves for white at move 6.  The Richter-Rauzer Attack is 6 Bg5.  The Sozin and Velimirovic Variations arise from 6 Bc4.

have the moderators of this site every thought of putting together a tutorial program for playing through all of the different openings and stuff? not chess mentor, per se', but just for learning all of the opening variations.

for anyone reading this, i believe if 6. Bc4, then 6...e6 is a good idea to prevent the Magnus Smith trap as shown here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQfXoGRv0f0)
