Hopkins Gambit

The Hopkins Gambit is a variant of the Ruy Lopez. Experimented with during the late 19th century, the Gambit is not generally accepted and is rarely seen in modern competition. It is named after Richard Hopkins, an amateur player who is first known to have played the Gambit in tournament play.
