King's Indian Defense

Last updated on Sat, 02/02/2008 at 10:48pm.

The King's Indian Defense is an "hypermodern" (delaying the control of the centre with pawns by attacking with distant pieces) opening that allows White to control the centre with his/her pawns and later challenging it with moves such as ...e5 and ...c5.

A usual move order is...

The King's Indian Defense is a very sharp and popular defense used by many Grandmasters including both Robert Fischer and Garry Kasparov.

The following are two games of both Fischer's and Kasparov's in which they used the King's Indian Defense and won.

In the Thomason vs Fisher game, on the move 21. Qxf4, did Tomason not see the knight fork coming on the next move?

The King's Indian Defence is my main defence against the queen's pawn opening. The defence has good reputation among the club players like I am. Still, it's a sharp system, and it will guarantee a high tension game, witch is called fun for most chessplayers. I would recommend the system to anyone wanting to learn how to come up with  plans or tactics to over-throw your opponent, in witch is my favorite part of using this system.
