The Challengers

  • The Oklahoma City chess club "The Challengers" was founded in May 2007 by Roger Baxter.

Roger Baxter, the club's founder, is also the club's historian and its' anchor. Roger shows up on Both Monday and Wednesday evenings, rarely missing an appearance and tends to be there for the full 5 hours. Roger brings extra chess sets so sets are never in short supply. Roger requires members to sign in with each appearance and so maintains excellent records of past attendance. There are no membership fees.

The Challengers meet on from 5:30pm-10:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays at the respective locations:

    Mondays:

    Barnes & Noble Quail Springs,
    13800 North May Ave,

    Wednesdays:

None of us are good compared to Kasparov!  Just show up and play or analyze or solve puzzles or whatever. The Wednesday night Barnes & Noble on May and south of 63rd street is the most active club.  I am trying to get players to show up at Full Circle at 50 Penn Place on Saturdays noon (this one is hit and miss).

Are any of these clubs still going on. I'm not very good but I would like to get some regular games in.

Help keep it local and come play at Full Circle Books on NW Expressway and Penn, in the bottom floor of the 50 Penn Place building. We serve wine and beer as well as coffee drinks and tea. Tables inside and outside in the garden cafe. Groups welcome, pick up games too. We have tables with boards on them, and you are always free to bring your own. Locally owned and operated! Hope to see you soon!

I've been having fun with these guys on Monday nights.  Very friendly and willing to mentor to beginners as well.  Thanks Roger.
