My son is a 1200 junior player. He improved from beginner to 1200 level in less than a year but has been stuck and really needed some guidance from a good coach. I wanted to get him some in person chess lessons ($$$) because I was afraid Internet lessons would not work for his age, until I found FM Ju and decided to give it a try. We've taken two lessons so far and it has worked very well. He assessed my son in first lesson and in second lesson went over my son's recent tournament losses with him and also has a tailored plan to target my son's weaknesses. In addition to the lesson itself, Evan was a top player in his age group in his junior chess player days and is an inspriration to my son. My son is very quick and when he tries to discuss chess with me, I cannot follow his line of thoughts. There is no better person than chess.com blitz #1 player to teach him. Being a beginner and weaker player than my son, I can also count on Evan to give me additional advice such as what books to get, what software to get, etc.

Best value in Chess.com coaches, period.

    Hello Evan,

I have organized a few chess camps in the Midwest over the years and have recently moved to Taiwan.  It is in the very early stages, but I am thinking about organizing a camp in Taichung in about a year.  It will be important to have a strong group of instructors in Asia that speak English and at least little Mandarin (and I mean very little, for example a student is shouting "restroom" in Mandarin.).

My questions are...  If you are still in Asia in the Summer of 2013, would you have any interest in  being an Instructor at a 3 day camp in Taiwan?  Can you communicate at a very basic level in Mandarin?

This is really at the idea stage, I'm just trying to find out what my options are in this part of the world.

    Thanks for your time,

    Craig Stauffer

$30 seems like a heck of a bargain for an hour. Hoping to take advantage soon.

I've had two hour long lessons with Evan in the past week and I believe they will be excellent preparation for my participation in next month's World Open.  We played two G/10 games each time with commentary to follow.  Evan spent more time with me than the allotted hour both times, and the second lesson he played openings he doesn't necessarily play to help me prepare in case I face them, yet even in these unfamiliar openings he had many insightful comments.

Evan's lessons are a bargain and he seems like a nice guy to boot!  So what are you waiting for?

In the online games, do you talk about the game, give instructions or just play?

It is my dream to become a master of chess, i work very hard at improving my game and try my best in every match i play, are their any books or anything you prefer me to read to improve my game? If you could coach me cheaply it would be my dream come true, i believe everybody, rich and poor, deserves a chance to make their dream come true. If you want to make my dream come true please coach me.

     Sincerely,

    Kylan B. Johnson
