Hi! I met Zoki in our Blue Marble group here at Chess.com...

Being new to this site and adrenaline was high in my blood, I signed in all the tournaments and matches invites sent to me until I had over 30 games! And worse was ( to my shock too ), I was to play against him in one tournament! I knew I didn't stand a chance, but I was thrilled with the opportunity to play against him. Well, the result as we all know, was a foregone conclusion.Smile

I consider myself raw in this game although I learned it by myself at 6 years old. Zoki was ever patient with me and shared a lot of pointers-- both basic and practical which has helped me improve my games tremendously. I daresay, I must be his worst student because I never read any books to start with, and I tend to ignore the golden rules he discussed with me, mainly due to the wrong patterns that I got accustomed to playing early in my life. And something could be said about my impulsive nature too ( I move my pieces fast without thinking so I still make a lot of mistakes/blunders ). But his continues patience was just amazing. I am still learning so much from him. And I hope he never tires...

Zoki, I learned some patience now, so I ponder before making a move. I am a stronger player than I ever was before as well. It is not your fault that I tend to be careless on the board still, thus my rating is not really impressive.EmbarassedSurprisedLaughing I learned something from you like vital rules which, without your help, I maybe never have bothered to read or study at all.

I am so blessed to have found you! More power and my sincere thanks to you my Chess Guru!

Dear isthatso,

I don't expect you to reply to this at all, however, I'm very interested in learning chess and becoming an equal advisery in this game. So, I thought I would give this a shot. Hope to hear from you soon.

Can you teach me to play chess well ?  I'm a bit lost with the material in this site and I'm still in the 800s here in the site.

How can I start to progress ? What I need in order to be your student ?

Thanks,
Bruno

I am 57 and trying to learn to play chess well.  Zoran has helped me break thru my previous limitations and expand my understanding of the game.  We've only just begun but I expect good things.

I must say, too, that while studying and playing chess is a tough assignment, Zoran is the rare teacher that can make it fun and interesting as he takes a complex subject and reduces it to its simple parts.

Thank you, Zoki!

I am one of his students. He is the chess guru, and is the best chess teacher in the whole world. He also in a way help us in school work by getting us to write how we felt about tournaments and more.

For example, the 2009 grade level championships, i tied for first place with a score of 5 out of 6. The openings are totally unexpected like from 1900s. He encourages kids  a lot, but at the same time has lots of fun. He works day and night and sacrifices lots of his time for kids who want to win the grade level and put their full effort. He is such a great coach. i started with him when i was a 600 and am now near 1600s.

I am his student and he is the best chess guru ever. He teaches you how to play and become a very strong player. His openings that he gives you are unexpected, tactical, and agressive.

Here is an example, in 2008, and 2009 CA Grade Level State Championships, he helped me win the 2008, and 2009 grade level championship and the 2009 4-5 varsitey championships at San Jose, I got clear first in 2008 and in 2009 for both tournaments i tied for first but the trophy was first place and the other 1st place. He puts a lot of effort teaching kids and he is a good one too. You should be his student, if you won't be his student you will regret it.

I am his student and his teaching is only explainable if you are there to see it. Being a master and being really good is a very different talent than to being able to teach your knowledge and share it. He has just an amazing way of doing that.

My personal results show his work and effort on me at the CA grade level state championships in stockton - I played in the 7th grade section with a 5/6 score and came out with a clear first place trophy. He puts in a lot of effort in to his teaching and you just have to find time to put that to good use!

This is my teacher. I came to him as a 1300+ and I am now rated 1508 as well as being the 2009 Cal state grade level champion! He helped me identify my weaknesses and work on them. He also helped find openings that suited our "style."

This chess guru is great with kids and tells the truth. He really cares about his students. It is wonderful to learn the great game of chess by his side at a low cost. He is a fun guy but knows when to divide buisness and celebration. You can only improve.
