Best app even most better Chess Base app ever......
What are the settings for Arena (or Winboard, for that matter) to connect to chess.com? What port and is timeseal supported? I can connect fine to ICC or FICS.
Seriously awesome. I haven't been using anyhthing else since I found this.
Its better than Winboard for both analysis and playing. Installing engines is quick. Loads of features and customisability.
P.S. Those with installation problems should try the installer on their official page.
Also, the arena_3.0.zip I downloaded from their page was 17 MB, came in English, and runs smoothly without installation.
The only language option is German. Not very helpful for those of us who don't speak it.
Thanks defrancis7...I followed your procedure for installing the English language module for Arena 3 using the windows GUI rather than working through the command prompt as you did and it worked fine also...great software...
I like it very much, it has become my favorite.
I love it I can Have all of my Chessmaster engines play houdini in this Interface. Great program!!
Where do I find the english.zip file?
HOW I INSTALLED ARENA 3 with English SubmenusMy system is a Windows 7 64 bit.1) I downloaded the Arena zip file: arena.zip file, 1.2MB from Chess.com. The file will be located, as with all other downloaded files, in the Downloads folder.2) Since I wanted to use English Language in the program Menus, I also downloaded the English zip file: english.zip.3) I then shutdown my internet connection: signing out of chess.com, closing FireFox, and closing the wi-fi LAN program. This is an optional step and is not really neccessary to install the program.4) I then went to the command prompt on the accessories menu: Start > Accessories > Command Prompt.5) I changed directories to root: cd \.6) I created the subdirectory Arena3, where I planned to put the program files: md c:\Arena3.7) I then moved to the new subdirectory Arena3: cd \Arena3.8) I created the subdirectory Languages under Arena 3: md Languages.9) I then moved back to the downloads directory: cd \users\defrancis7\downloads. (My downloads subdirectory, yours will be different.10) I unzipped the english.zip file. I had the extracting program put the files into the c:\arena3\languages subdirectory. In this case, there is only one file: English.lng, 155K. I copied this file into the c:\arena3 subdirectory as well.11) I unzipped the arena.zip file into the c:\arena3 subdirectory.12) I exited the command prompt box by typing 'exit'.13) I then clicked on the 'my computer' icon. (You may have to go through the start menu.)14) I clicked on the c: drive.15) After the \ directory came up, I proceded to click my way to the \arena3 subdirectory.16) I double-clicked on the arena.exe program icon. When you run the program for the first time you will be asked to choose which language you want. Your choices shown should be either 'German' or 'English'. I clicked on English since I don't know German.17) The program will eventually take to graphic chessboard with 3 information boxes to the right of it. You should then be able to customize Arena and install your chess engines. I chose to intall 'Houdini'.I hope this helps. Dee.
