Description:
László Polgár proposes 4 variations of Chess in his book Reform-Chess.
You can download the 4 special chessboards in JPG format and print them on A3 paper.

Initial position
The players start by positioning the pieces of the 1st row (and the pieces of the last row for the black's) wherever they want, in turns.
Each game includes 2 options: symmetric and asymmetric. In the symetric option the white and black pieces are positioned in front of each others (e.g. a white bishop in front of a black bishop). In the asymmetric option the white pieces can be positioned in a different manner as black pieces. The pawns are positioned in the second row and in the last row before last, as in a normal chess game.
The castling kingside and castling queenside are only allowed if the initial position is as follows: the king and queen are separated by 2 or 3 squares and the tower is in the corner (as in a normal Chess game).
Apart from the chessboards and initial positions the rules are the same as with a normal chess game.
In summary, a lot can be done with this reformed Chess: games are very short and fun and interesting situations can occur rapidly. László recommends it for training. He trained his "girls" with this reformed chess and you all know the result...
