If you have a Mac and want a strong chess playing/analyzing program, I think SigmaChess is probably worth the "lite" version at least. Lots of features and opening books and does a nice export to html if you want to publish your games with annotations on a webpage.

I've paid the registration fee ($20US) because it is a solid program. It may not have all of the razzledazzle of ChessMaster, but really, don't you just want a solid program that plays varying levels of chess? The benefit to registration is that it then allows to program to play at full strength.

It's the best non-commerical chess program for the Mac (IMHO).
