I just bought this book last week.  I started working through the chapters and find it to be a great workbook.  Pandolfini puts everything into easy to understand portions.

one of the finest 'beginner' books available.  Additional stimulation involves having the student look at the diagram until they 'have it' in their heads, then close the book, and tell the coach (parent) the principle and the move.   [Of course, the coach/parent can look up the answer if not sure.  all the answers are in the back.]
