Despite being a pocket book which lets you carry it around, I highly recommend utilizing a board to simulate otb conditions to profit more from the 300 positions. Your eyes are trained to move and flow along lines and diagonals, not being fixed on a 2-inch square. When top players were just starting out, they set up instructive positions, tinker around with them, and after that they reset the board for another one.

As for the cover, I tore it and made it a piece of my "chess babes collage" which also included many contemporary WGMs and WIMs!

Interesting book – it’s worth your time in running thru’ the patterns and positions. I believe it’s available online via Java script (that’s if you don’t want the hard copy).

The only thing that irks me is the cover; I just don’t get it! Why does that lady hover over him like it was a poker game?

Motivated chess students only.  No board needed. helps them visualize positions in their heads, without moving the pieces.  I've been using it for quite a few years with all my students - the serious ones.

Study through this anytime, and it will help you raise your rating by at least 100 points if below 2000 USCF.

Nice book. It cover 300 basic patterns everybody must know. If you like me like doing tactical exercises, this book is a must. You will finish the book relatively fast, becuase all are nearly-easy, and by doing the book a few times, you will learn all of this basic patterns. Highly recommended. The only drawback is the front. I don't like the photography it has. I have cover all the book with a piece of paper and plastic. No I carry the book in my car, and read it when I am at traffic jumps, when I must wait for somethink or similar situations.
