Description:

From a theoretical backwater to a fully blown main line opening, the rise of the Scandinavian Defence (1 e4 d5) has been nothing short of meteoric. Over the past 15 years the Scandinavian has become more and more popular both at club and Grandmaster level. It even managed to obtain an ultimate seal of approval when Vishy Anand employed it in his World Championship match with Garry Kasparov! This book provides a complete update of Emms's original and best-selling edition of The Scandinavian, published in 1997. Since then there have been many new and important discoveries from both sides of the board, and these are included here.

If you play the Scandinavian (as black or faced it as white), this is the last update reference in the market. It shows all main lines, plus same prose that explain the basic concepts.

If you play the Scandinavian as black or want to start playing it as black, you definetely need this book as it covers about all of white's attempts for an advantage. It covers both the 2... Nf6 and the 2... Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5 variations, but if you want to play the 3... Qd6 Scandinavian you would be better off with Melts' Scandinavian Defense: The Dynamic 3... Qd6.

It's definitlely worth getting if you want to play the Scandinavian Defense well, or if you continuously suffer defeat at the hands of it.  Emms does a great job showing good moves for both sides of the board.  I'm working through it right now, and my play with the Scandinavian Defense as black is truly taking good form.
