I got a Citrine just before Christmas and I love it - by FAR the best chess computer I've ever used, and I've used quite a few.  It's all about the form factor - wood board, wood pieces, no "pressing" for your move to register.  It's all done with magnetic switches under the board.

It takes some getting used to:  for instance, you have to capture a piece by methodically lifting the capturing piece, lifting the piece to be captured, and placing the capturing piece on the new square.  You can't just grab the captured piece first.  (But really, it's no different with any touch-sensory board.)

Drawbacks?  There's no option for batteries; it's AC only.  (And you'll want to check with the vendor that they are sending you a North American adaptor - for some bizarre reason, mine shipped with a European adaptor, which set me back over a week.)  Apart from that the detachable LCD box is a little awkward sometimes.  But again, for the most part, it's a total pleasure to use.

If you're looking for a dedicated chess computer that's less pricey but still excellent, check out Novag's Obsidian.  It's not as "nice" as the Citrine, but still a very sharp machine and actually has more features and levels than the Citrine.

I had a citrine but sold it since it comes with ac wich is a drawback. I now own a Mephisto IV exclusive, wich is as the citrine made of wood but can be run with batteries. I like it very much

I had problems with the Citrine, well into the games it would refuse to give me my move, thats just one of the problems, I know I was moving the pieces correctly. I even tried another citrine and it also had some of the same problems, fortunately I got my money back, no restocking fees!  I know its pricey, but if it worked for me I would have no problem with the cost.

Overlord, the reason for the Citrine and other units like it, is to play with real pieces OTB not just a strong chess engine.
