Excellent board without an extravagant price tag: classy, stylish and very professional in appearance.

I have owned a smaller (1.5" squares, really too small for normal pieces) Drueke board for years that I picked up used in the 1980s.  It is one of few boards made using solid blocks of wood without veneers.  Both maple and black walnut are particularly beautiful woods with subtle glows and hues.  An interesting "engineering" feature is that the wood border on the sides has its grain running cross-wise instead of the usual lengthwise.  Doing so permits all the woods' grain to run in the same direction, and the normal expansion and contraction of the wood is therefore uniform.  The result is a no cracking, no veneer peeling, perfectly flat, strong, and beautiful board.

I also got one of these over 20 years ago (2" sq).  It's a terrific product and the 2 1/4" squares on their large board is stunning.  You won't find a better board for the price.

I like the way the squares alternate colour, side to side and in a zig zag, makes for a good game of chess!

Learning things had the best deal on shipping. I didn't get the free shipping, but they only charge $11 or so to UPS the 1.75"-squares board, suitable for a small library set, which is a fine deal. Everywhere else I looked was charging between $25-$30 to ship this small board. If I'm going to pay an extra $25-$30 for shipping, I'd rather go to local store and buy it at retail, to avoid the wait.

I would agree, you won't find a better board for the price - even at retail - anywhere, period. I have a Drueke 2-7/8"-squares version and it's beautiful - nearly a work of art.

People spend many hundreds of dollars on more expensive boards, but those do not look a whole lot better than this, which is the reference standard for wood boards.
