FORMAT: 6-Round Swiss system in one section

TIME CONTROL:
Rounds 1-4: Game in one hour
Rounds 5-6: 30 moves within 90 minutes, then 30 minutes added to remaining time for the rest of the game
 
ROUNDS:
Saturday March 10: 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6 p.m.
Sunday, March 11: 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
 
All requests for byes must be made before the start of the second round.
 
PRIZES: $1200 total (based on 40 paid entries)
 
1st place $300; 2nd place $200; 3rd place $100; Best Under 1800 $140; 2nd Best Under 1800 $85; Best Under 1600 $125; 2nd Best Under 1600 $75; Best Under 1400 or Unrated $115; 2nd Best Under 1400 or Unrated $60.
 
All lower-rated players are eligible to win higher class prizes. 
 
ENTRY FEE: Advance entries are $40 for Mechanics' Institute members, $45 for non-members. Fees increase by $5 for entries received after March 7th and for entry on tournament day. 
 
REGISTRATION: 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on March 10, 2012
 
This tournament is U.S.C.F.-rated. Current membership in the United States Chess Federation is required. Membership can be obtained or renewed at tournament site during registration.
 
Membership in the Mechanics' Institute is not required for participation in the tournament.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to players with U.S.C.F. ratings under 2000 or unrated.
 
EQUIPMENT: Chess pieces and boards provided. Some clocks available. Scoresheets provided. Please bring a pen or pencil.
 
The Mechanics' Institute is the oldest chess club in the United States. The Institute can be reached via BART. Exit Montgomery Street BART station. The chess room is on the fourth floor of 57 Post Street, San Francisco.
