Calgary Open International 2008

The tournament is organized by the Calgary Chess Club and is endorsed by the Alberta Chess Association. Several strong players are expected to participate. The tournament would crown the Calgary Open Champion 2008. It is FIDE and CFC rated event. Equipment is provided. More info: www.calgarychess.com and www.albertachess.org

Venue: #274, 3359 – 27 Street NE (just east of Barlow Tr. and north of 32 Avenue NE).
Format: 7 rounds swiss (round 1-2 accelerated pairing).
Time control: Game in 110 minutes plus 30 sec. increment for each move.

Rating: FIDE and CFC.

Schedule: May 16th (Friday): Rd1-6:00pm,  May 17th (Sat): Rd2-10:00am, Rd3-4:00pm, May 18th (Sun.): Rd4-10:00am, Rd5-4:00pmMay 19th (Monday): Rd6-9:00am, Rd7-3:00pm

Registration: Space is limited therefore, please contact TD or CCC and pre-register in advance. On-site late registration May 17th (9:30-10:00am). No entries after the 2nd round.

Late entry would get 0.5 point Bye. Maximum two Byes are available, all Byes must be requested before 1st  round. One Bye would count for prizes. 0 point Bye for the last round.

Current CFC membership is required, it can be purchased at the time of registration: $41 adult, $27 junior. Foreign players pay one-time Tournament Membership fee of $10.

Entry fee: $50 adult, $35 junior U18. On May 1st the entry fee goes up by $10. FIDE titled players free entry.

 
Prizes: Estimated prize fund $2,500 ($1,000 from ACA plus entry fees). Top prize minimum $500. There would be prizes in every class also the winner gets trophy.        
 
Accommodation: Greenwood Hotel 250-8855 and Sheraton Cavalier Hotel 291-0107  (both located just 2 blocks away), please make an inquiry. There are several food places in the area. Free parking.
