WHAT/WHERE: Scholastic chess tournament @ Montclair Elementary School (4920 Tallowwood Drive, Dumfries, VA 22025). For direction use: .
WHEN: SATURDAY, April, 25th
REGISTRATION: Register via e-mail with name, grade and school to: princewilliamchess@gmail.com. There will be NO registration at the school on April 25th. Deadline for registration is 6:00 pm on THURSDAY, April 23rd (Please do not wait until the deadline to register.) You can check for registration confirmation at: . at the Montclair Scholastic Registration page.
TIMES: Players should arrive and “check-in” between 8:00 and 8:45am. 1st Round will begin at 9:00. (Players arriving after 9:00 am will miss 1st Round.)
SECTIONS: Primary (K-3), Elementary (4-5), Middle School (6-8), & High School (9-12)
AWARDS: Top Individuals and Top Teams in each section will receive trophies.
Other players will receive medals or certificates.
COST: None. The tournament is sponsored by the Montclair Elementary andC. D. Hylton High School Chess Clubs in the interest of promoting scholastic chess.

RULES/PROCEDURES: Time Control: G/30. Touch move and other standard United States Chess Federation (USCF) tournament rules will be explained briefly at the start, and will apply. The top four scores of a school team will be used to determine the winning team. Any student may enter and does not have to be part of a school team, but at least two students from the same school must participate to constitute a team. No one is eliminated. All participants are expected to play 4 rounds unless withdrawal is required for medical or other emergency reasons. In each round students will play an opponent who has a similar record of wins/losses/draws within the section to that point in the tournament. Chess sets will be provided.
CONCESSIONS: A ‘parent-volunteer’ food concession will provide hotdogs, pizza, nachos, and other snack food and drinks. (Concession proceeds will be used to defray tournament costs.)
