WHAT/WHERE: Scholastic chess tournament @ Saunders Middle School (13557 Spriggs Road, Manassas, VA 20112) For directions use:

WHEN:  SATURDAY, November 21st.

 

REGISTRATION:  Register via e-mail with name, grade and school to: princewilliamchess@gmail.com. Registration will be confirmed via return e-mail. There will be NO registration at the school on November 21st.  DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS 6:00 PM ON THURSDAY, November 19th.  (Please do not wait until the deadline to register.)

 

TIMES: Players should arrive and “check-in” between 8:00 and 8:45am.  Comfirmation “roll call”at 8:50.  1st Round will begin at 9:00.  (Players arriving after “roll call”will miss 1st Round.)

                 

SECTIONS:Primary (K-3), Elementary (4-5), Middle School (6-8), & High School (9-12)

 

 AWARDS:  Top Individuals and Top Teams in each section will receive trophies.

 Other players will receive medals or certificates.

 

COST:     None.  The tournament is sponsored by the Saunders Middle School and C. D Hylton High School Chess Clubs in the interest of promoting scholastic chess.

RULES/PROCEDURES:  Time Control:  G/30. Touch move and other standard United States Chess Federation (USCF) tournament rules will be explained briefly at the start, and will apply.  The top four scores of a school team will be used to determine the winning team.   Any student may enter and does not have to be part of a school team, but at least two students from the same school must participate to constitute a team.  No one is eliminated.  All participants are expected to play 4 rounds unless withdrawal is required for medical or other emergency reasons.  In each round students will play an opponent who has a similar record of wins/losses/draws within the section to that point in the tournament. Chess sets will be provided.

 

CONCESSIONS:   A ‘parent-volunteer’ food concession will provide hotdogs, pizza, nachos, and other snack food and drinks.  (Concession proceeds will be used to defray tournament costs.)
