FORMAT: 8-Round Swiss system in one section (one game every Tuesday night)
TIME CONTROL: 30 moves within 90 minutes, followed by game in 30 minutes
ROUNDS: Each round starts at 6:30 p.m. on the following dates: January 3, January 10, January 17, January 24, January 31, February 7, February 14, February 21.
Byes are available. See entry form for details.
ENTRY FEE: $40 ($50 for registration on the day of the first round--January 3, 2012)
PRIZES: 65% of the prize fund given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall, Best Under 2200, Best Under 2000, Best Under 1800, Best Under 1600, Best Under 1400.
All lower-rated players are eligible to win higher class prizes.
Cash prizes can be only given to Mechanics' Institute members. All other prizes will be given as either a membership to the Mechanics' Institute plus the remainder in cash, or partial payment towards a year's membership.
This tournament is U.S.C.F.-rated. Current membership in the United States Chess Federation is required. Membership can be obtained or renewed at tournament site.
EQUIPMENT: Chess pieces and boards provided. Some clocks available. Scoresheets provided. Please bring a pen or pencil.
The director of this tournament is International Master John Donaldson, the director of the Mechanics' Institute chess club.
The Mechanics' Institute is the oldest chess club in the United States. The Institute can be reached via BART. Exit Montgomery Street BART station. The chess room is on the fourth floor of 57 Post Street, San Francisco.
