Here is an article discussing the new FIDE rating list:

Anand tops the list at 2801, while Ivanchuk takes second spot with 2787, and Kramnik in third with 2785

No wonder Anand is the world champion.  Anand's peak however is 2803, while Kramnik is even higher at 2809, as if that matters for them.  Cool

Fischer was superior to either of those players. I am quite curious as to the method used to rate top players currently.  I believe that Fischer if rated using current method would exceed 2900. -SIX

Ultimately, there is only one valid way to compare the strength of players, and that is over the board. Since Fischer eschewed the opportunity for that comparison after 1975, such comparisons are purely speculative. For me, Kasparov's grand 15-year reign as World Champion gives him best claim to the mantle of Greatest Living Chessplayer.

I agree with Ricardo_Morro. The strongest chess player in the world according to me is "Kasparov" and "Paul Morphy". Laughing .

Yes, Kasparov is the man, but his political moves are dubious (he's seeking Russia's presidency).  Paul Morphy was also great, although he didn't have any strong opposition in his time...  Undecided

2800 rating is freakin rediculous... i couldn't imagine being rated that high... i mean, how good can you possibly be at chess?!

Until the last few years, Kasparov could beat any computer made. That's how good.

Reb, how many times did Kasparov face Spassky and Petrosian before he fully blossomed in chess and how many times did he face them in his peak, during his World Champion reign?

The point of your original post was to make a specious transitive relation between Kasparov and Fischer. The more differences you find between your transitive link -- as you did in your most recent post -- the weaker your argument becomes.

Kasparov has given simuls against teams of GMs, so I don't know what you're on about.

Well, when Kasparov wins 20 on the trot against all GM players then maybe we can talk about who is the best of the two. I wonder who has the longest win streak against all GMs after Fischer?

That is exactly why Fischer is the greatest ever..

It's a pity that many younger players have no chess history sense.

One must study at least the history from the age of Steinitz until now.

If one has no real knowledge of greats such as Capa, Pillsbury, Lasker, Alekhine,Marshall, Spielmann, Janoski, Tarrasch, Chareousak, Schlecter,  Fine, Keres , Bronstein, Rubenstein etc... Then how can one declare a modern great player as the alltime best!??--SIX

Wilhelm Steinitz won 25 straight games albeit over a nine year period.

No that is not true. Anand has just recently won the world title. Kramnick says it is only on loan though lol.
