BOBBY FISCHER’S CHESS LIBRARY, INCLUDING NOTEBOOKS PREPARED FOR THE 1972 WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP.

I came across this story via the chessmaniac site.

The auction House Bonhams (New York) will be auctioning Bobby Fischer's chess library on 10 June. The estimate is $50 000 to $80 000.

If you follow the link it will take you to Bonhams and you can view the items.

The four notebooks of Spassky's games were prepared by 'RGW'; aka Robert Wade.

The tale of how Bob Wade came to prepare these notebooks is told in the book "Bobby Fischer Goes to War" by Edmonds & Eidinow (faber & faber 2004); see chapter 10.

This material was auctioned on e-bay several years ago with a minimum bid of $15,000 and never sold. The original source came from the West Covina sale from Fischer's storage unit.

At least it is being auctioned as one lot and not being broken up. I had wondered what had happened to Bob Wade's notebooks. Bob Wade died a few months ago.

I wonder if there are any chess historians out there with deep pockets?

    Or will FIDE bid?
