Huge chess simul to honor heroic guerrilla

    Here is a news article about a huge chess simul being held in honor of the heroic guerilla Ernesto Guevara:

    The simul will be played on 1,500 boards(!) by numerous IM and GM players against local students.

    You wrote "heroic." There are players of chess living in Florida because of such "heroics" as murder, torture, and lying about being a doctor. This "hero" begged for his life claiming he was worth more as a celebrity than a dead criminal.

     He was heroic to those who suffered under the Batista dictatorship, so I think that it is a valid statement.  As for his last statement, you have to figure that the only ones who were to hear it were his Bolivian executioners.  I wouldn't expect much objectivity from that lot.

    But yes, he prosecuted the executions at La Cabana of many men associated with Batista's government.  (Nearly over 500 executions) It was brutal.  They were not given fair trial.  But I wonder though why no one ever brings up the fact that Batista's dictatorship was even more brutal and cruel to its citizens?

    At least you know something cazoo. Batista, who gave Castro a wedding present, was not more brutal than Castro and/or Guevara. Even if he had been, that does not make Che heroic. Che's murder and torture victims were not limited to "men" and were not limited to those "associated with Batista's government." The Cuban people are among those to show that communism always creates mass refugees, whether they use boats or not. In my career, I have had colleagues who left Cuba because of Castro. In chess tournaments, such as the New York Open, I have seen additional Cuban refugees. Some had to earn money here to get their families out. These activities display their opinions and display them where they count. In America, cazoo, your opinion, my opinion, and the opinions even of those who have escaped from Fidel and Che count.

    How is it that US anti-communist propaganda from a national master from New York is not "political", while an anti-Iraq war blog written by a redneck in Idaho is blocked for being too political.

An announcement from the state controlled Cuban press was the introduction to this thread. That is political, just as your "face" is in trivializing communism which killed over 100 million in the 20th century. My comments, unlike those from Cuba are not state, or as you say, "US." They are based on my training in history. If you check history, you may learn that Che was educated to be a medic, not a doctor.
