So what does everyone think about the upcoming match?
For one thing I hope the match does not happen in Bulgaria, having the match in the home country of one of the participants is pretty silly. I won't be surprised if Kamsky refuses to sign any contract involving a Bulgarian-hosted match.
As for the chess, it should be a very interesting contrast in styles. Topalov the attacker and opening theory machine vs Kamsky the technician and opening theory ignoramus.
Topalov it s in his right to play in his country..afterall he played in Russia vs Kramnik. The match was initially to be played at Sofia, but FIDE took back his word.FIDE is a corrupt federation, a shame for the chess community. i would not be surprised if another rogue champion (like Kasparov) would quit FIDE.Topalov vs Kamsky in Sofia!
I wouldn't call Kalmykia (or as I like to call it "Kirsanstan" part of Russia) as it basically shares nothing in common with Russia socially and is run by the chess-is-religion president of FIDE.
Maybe the world championship match shouldn't have been played in Elista...but that doesn't mean that this match should be played in Bulgaria. Especially since the Bulgarians seem to have a knack for causing needless non-chess related mind-screwing shenanigans off the board.
Does anybody other than Smartattack think the match should be run in Bulgaria?
What kind of mind screwing schemes u refer?by the way, the bulgarians are great players.
Well as long as FIDE has a hand in it the match will be about more then chess. As for the match it should not be played in anyones home country, and i would personally like to be as ignorant of opening theory as ericmittens calls Kamsky i wouldn't mind having a rating of 2700. Wherever the match is played, Kamsky will come out on top.
Kamsky and Topa have been playing amazing chess. Kamsky took his game to a new level at the World Chess Cup and was absolutely dominating. He didn't lose a game. If he plays in that form against Topa I think he has to be the favorite. Topa has been -- erm, Topa -- completely inconsistent... but at his best, Tal-like brilliance. Look at his recent demolition of Kramnik at Corus this year... an amazing game, an early contender for game of the year -- Kramnik's lame excuse being that he had a cold -- LOL... of course Topa accused Kramnik of going to the bathroom suspiciously, but saw that he came back with weak moves -- so I guess both Topa
and Kramnik were relieved (*rim shot*).
The current deadline for submitting a bid to host this match is April 23. If nothing new is submitted the match will be in Sofia, Bulgaria.
There are rumors of a rival bid from Lvov, Ukraine. (Details here: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4564 )
The match is expected to occur in late November to early December.
It looks like the bid from the Ukraine was real, the match will be held there.
