On Sunday championship of our chess club has begun. In the opening speech our director said that FIDE changed the rule about waiting time for your opponent. It was 1 hour. Now it is 5 minutes!!! FIDE President Kirsan Illumzinov wants to make chess an Olympic sports, so it necessary to make such accurate things as game begin.

What do you think? Is this good or not? At higher level it may be won't be so decisive, but in club of half-amateurs - we don't have personal autos and we have another work! And about Ukraine - Kiev regulary suffers from traffic jams - so even if you gone in time you can be late. Late only for 6 minutes - and you lost!

And even and highest level - this kind of rule may lead to very-very big scandal. Not exactly now, but sooner or later - because it's a great catalizator for scandal people that want to psyhologically influent thier opponent or simply for sick fighters for justice.

P.S. In our club we voted and decided to have 30 minutes technical time. Only in this tourney. Later, we will also use FIDE time.

The last I'd seen was that even a second late - even at your board but not sitting at it - and you were forfeited. Of course, individual TDs can change this rule for their tournaments.

Indeed, if you had five minutes leniency, then you're five minutes better off than most major tournaments at the moment.
