The article appears unreliable.
Susan Polgar is referred to as Sofia.
Georg Meier is already playing for Texas Tech. http://today.ttu.edu/2011/11/knight-raider-shines-on-the-world-stage/
Perhaps it is from last year?
Edit: The answer is in post #8. So will play for Webster University in St. Louis with the rest of the former Texas Tech A team.

Does Texas Tech have a chess team?

TTU won the national championship last spring! Susan has always been the Polgar there. Sophia lives in Israel IIRC.

I saw an advertisement in the magizine New In Chess about chess and Texas Tech University. Susan Polgar founded SPICE (Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence) to be "the premeir center for chess education, research, technology, and ourtreach" so I believe the article is true.
Check out their website; it's quite good...and there are TONS of pictures (it's not real unless it has pictures!).
Philippines press still reporting that So will be at Texas Tech.

"Wesley So just recently was rewarded a scholarship from Texas Tech."
Not many American Universities give out chess schollies.
The answer included in a much bigger story is no he will not. So will play for Webster University in St. Louis along with Ray Robson.
