A or B a Chess Book

Sort:

a) how to reasses your chess 4 Ed. - Jeremy Silman

b) winning chess strategies -Yasser Seirawran

Please give your recommendation with reasoning. Explain difference between the two, pros or cons, ect.

Preferred if you have read both but definitely not necessary.

Thanks!

I don't think you could really go wrong with either.  I own Winning Chess Strategies.  I haven't read the entire book,  but I have read some of it,  along with Winning Chess Tactics.  I really like both.

The content is very similar, but I find Yasser's style a lot less grating; he doesn't chastise people for making mistakes, just points out the problem and moves along.  Since I bought the Silman books, I'm getting my money's worth and reading them, but they're really not my cup of tea.

Hi the everyman winning chess series by yasser are a fantastic series I have all seven there an easy read plenty of written explanations rather than just notations and coordinates joy to own and a pot of great advice my recommendation is grab then all you'll definitely grow as atactician reassure your chess is a clever book again great read with some great innovative ideas in how to study and learn how to build up physical graphs on your games with scores which in time you'll start to know positions by memory and know where your at with that game loads more I wouldn't spoil for you Capablanca simple book is a must have some perfect exercises in that if you can try openings for white and black 2 books by Roman , eugine and another great author an dplayer but back to it winning chess the series will do you for years

I 've read winning chess tactics, and I think it's a great book, so I believe that the same happens with winning chess strategies. One month ago I started reading  "How to reassess your chess", and I think it is difficult to read it if you haven't already read the amateur's mind (check it here). So, I suggest you to read Seirawan's book first, and then go with amateur's mind, and finally with how to reassess your chess Wink

I think Seïrawan is a great author, who explains things in an entertaining way and has well-selected examples, so I'd pick his book.
