Seeking comments (not trying to sell) on these handmade high-end chess sets. Just completed the first run and want to make them better. Do you have ideas on improvement?

Thanks!

Hi again ifekali.  We talked in the Fischer's Favorite Set thread.  I like your set idea, it's minimalistic which is right up my alley.  I don't like the knight though honestly.  I've seen quite a few chess sets and I was curious if you realize your set is very similar to HoS's Empire Series?  :)  Here it is:

ChessBaron also has a similar set to yours but they don't label it properly

I like your set too though, I was wondering: are they weighted?

"Own at own risk"?  Hm...

And yes, I too like the cookies.

We will improve the knight, thanks for your input. Yes, the pieces are weighted (king 58 g, pawn 20 g).

Yes, I am aware of the Empire Series, but find them not radical enough. Need no curves. :)

Personally, I'd say that the queen's finial is too big, and the bishop's is too small.

Good find! Will be fixed!

Thanks!

I have had a chance to play several matches with this set at ifekali's manor first hand. They are a beauty to hold and look nice too. I especially loved the blue leather bottom that each piece boasts. Also, my tactics have improved tremendously with this set. Apart from that, all I'd add to it is a GPS tracker in every piece so I could keep track of my games on google maps.

I like it except for the knights.  Why are they so detailed?  They seemed to be at odds with the minimalist design of the rest of set.

I just had a look at your 'Eastern' style chess set which is also very nice (I'm a proud owner of one of these, so perhaps I'm a little biased), though I'd say that the collars on the King and Queen look a bit too flimsy - I'd either make them not stick out as far or at least a bit thicker.

I would also take another look at the manes on your knights - the lines seem a bit too 'square', which goes against the gentle curves of the rest of the set.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, this is very helpful.

A beautiful set, I own a modified one (with only the bishops sporting opposite color so it's more like the original Dubrovnik), the mod is easy, there was no extra charge.

Nice design!

Dig the hypermodern look.....maybe the knight is a bit too detailed. Love the rook.

I own a few sets but I have always loved the look of the Zagreb 59 from HoS. I picked up the boxwood/ebony set.

Interesting that Kings' crowns are different in shape :)

You mean in the post above you? Yeah, the HOS set comes with two sets of finials that can be changed at will. I use the cross on my set, because the other one doesn't look quite right, IMO.

TeslasLightning

I have that Zagreb 59 pictured above.  It is easily my favorite.  The pieces are weighted just right. HOS also offers it in ebony and blood rosewood....I am so tempted.

TheOldReb

I really like that Zagreb set ... I just might have to get me one ... is it very expensive ?

It's a turnip.
