Hello all, im looking to buy a quality chess set, probably 4'' or 4.33''.  The most common king bases for those sets are 1.7 or 1.9''. Im wondering if 2.2'' or 2.4'' quares board are good for those sets or not. anyone could help?

Those are 2 possible choises:

board

piece set

Not sure if the board linked can handle those pieces or if i should buy some smaller pieces with smaller base.

In my opinion that set would look crowded on a board with 60 mm squares.

65 mm or 2 1/2" - 2 5/8" squares would be a better fit.

A 4" set should go nicely with the 60 mm squares.

The above is a 4" tall, wide based, fairly slender set on a 2-3/8" board.

Next is the same set on a 2-1/2" board, and in my eyes the proper match.

@goldengdog.. what are the base size of your chess set? 1.9?

Also: Very nice your 2 & 1/2 board! Can be bought online? On ebay i saw this seller i linked above with very nice chess sets, but it lacks of proper sized chess boards.

Here is a 4.0" (10.16 cm) HOS set with 1.875" (4.76 cm) King base on a board with 2.25" (5.72 cm) squares.  The 'recommended' square size for this set is 2.375" (6.03) - 2.5" (6.35 cm), but I think the set looks good, not too crowded.
