Hi everyone,
I'm a new memeber and pretty new to chess as well. I was wondering if any of the UK members could recommend a website to buy a wooden chess set from? Ideally I'd like a 16 or 17" inch rosewood folding set like the '16" Traditional Folding Rosewood Chess Set' I saw on http://www.wholesalechess.com/chess/chess_sets/wood_chess_sets/16_traditional_folding_rosewood_chess_set. My budget is about £50-£60 approx. What I really want is a nice looking wooden set and board that folds so I can store the pieces inside. Fitted slots for the pieces would be ideal like in the above example on wholesalechess. Maybe £50 is not enough but at least I'll then have a ball park figure to work from to see what I can afford etc.
Thanks!
Paul.

I'll ask around for you
Thanks.
I'm considering buying this from wholesale chess:

Anybody had any experience with them?

Hi George,
I don't know enough about the kind of set you're looking for to be of specific help...
...however, I have had lots of dealings with the following companies and would recommend contacting any or all of them. In this economic climate you might find your £50 goes further than you'd expect if you shop around!
Chess Suppliers (Scotland),
Chess Direct,
London Chess Center
and Regency Chess Co.
Good luck,
Streetfighter
That's great thanks, i'll check them out. I'd already found the London Chess Centre and Regency links but the others are new. I think my budget can stretch to about £60 or £70 to get a nice looking wooden set and board. I'm definately after an antique style finish (where the black pieces are brown) and you can see the wood grain on the black pieces. I'll probably be spoilt for choice with all the links now (well hopefully!). I've just been reading up on base size versus board square size as well so that will help with my choice.

Just to mention guitargeorge, I've got my folding set on eBay and it was really cheap and good quality!
Maybe worth a look...
D'oh! Forgot about eBay! I'll check it out, cheers.
Well I finally opted for these from Regency Chess:
Board - http://www.regencychess.co.uk/15-inch-golden-rosewood-and-maple-solid-chess-board-p-112.html
Pieces - http://www.regencychess.co.uk/down-head-knight-staunton-chess-pieces-325-inches-p-75.html
Just got to find someone to play against now!
Time to teach my wife how to play I think.
Cheers,
