Have a look at this article. If you are too lazy to pick up and pick up a pen then this may appeal to you... http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2007/04/monroi-future-of-recording-chess-moves.html I know there are many organizations that would love to get chess to be more popular, but this won't help much... Only a matter of time before someone hacks one (unless it's already happened). I don't see how chess can ever be regarded as anything more than commercial with so many loopholes and machines "running a muck." Even the USCF rules have been changed to allow their use in the tournament hall. One more reason to work towards that FIDE rating I suppose...

Well technology will be always changing. I can see in the near future chessboards that will record you move as you play a game, so a person will not have to write down moves as they play, then a printout of the moves or a CD copy spits out after the game is over. Plus the board will have a built in timer, so the palyers will not have to hit  a button to start their opponents timer.

You're better off buying an engine or something that will actually help your chess.

If you really will spend all that cash why not get Fritz or Rybka and maybe a nice set and clock and some learning books/DVDs? I mean I'd stick to writing and buy stuff that'll make me better. I don't think I'd buy this unless I was a titled player if I bought it at all.

Bump. I'm still hearing a few horror stories about these things. Some people are getting booted from tourneys while some don't get caught...

Why would you want to carry around an extra machine, much less pay for it, when pen and paper will do the trick? This is like bringing a calculator to add 2+2=4. I agree people are getting lazy. This is a problem of our society.

I really want to, but I just don't have time for it now. I barely play chess here so I'd never have time to use any of the features I pay for with school starting again.

Oh yes and cheating is just annoying to deal with as it is and now there's an almost unstoppable way to do it - All because of some lazy man's invention. It's practically an analysis board and TDs will have to watch for this bull... But in a room of 500, is that even possible?

So I checked it out and read the specs. It stores games in PGN format and has 4 MB of flash memory, and yet can only store 50 games??? What are they doing with the other 3.95 MB?

Cheaters have been caught using them as analysis boards instead of actually recording the game. The USCF doesn't collect scoresheets so it is not even necessary to have proof of the game. Of corse that is a risk in itself but...
