Chess Pieces Weight

Sort:
hankas

Hi,

I am in the process of shopping for another chess set. I need advice on the best weight for a 3.75" and a 4" chess set. I prefer my chess pieces to be very heavy, and yet they must be naturally heavy as if they are made from some heavyweight material. I have seen chess pieces whose weight seems unnatural, like a flimsy tall pole with a super heavy base. If any of you happen to have a similar chess set with weight that you like, let me know their estimated weight. Thanks.

I use triple-weighted club pieces. They feel alright.

I contacted HOS. Unfortunately, they do not ship to Indonesia. So now I am looking at other vendors' offerings. The problem is they all come up with a variety of weight. I am not sure which weight is best for 3.75" or 4" chess pieces. I think I came across a set with around 6 ounces for the king. Is that too heavy? I also saw a friend's set where the king is too heavy and the pawn is too light. It would be nice if there is some sort of a guideline in choosing the ideal weight of a chess set.

I just opened the links that msjenned posted. They look good, especially the guide in choosing a chess set. That's what I needed. Thanks. :)

Maybe 6 ounce for a King too heavy.

I also have this set along with my Club triple-weighted. This maybe with the 2.375inches square Chess Board.
