Chessbazaar - 3.6" Dubrovnik in Ebony/Boxwood

That's what puzzled me rcmac. I asked about bloodrose wood in that set about 3 months ago and they told me they no longer make sets in bloodrose wood.  Really a lack of communication on their part.

I even asked them to do a 4" set Dubrovnik in any wood with the new specs and change the knight design to what the original knights look like even emailing them 2 pics a side view and a front view from an original set.  He said he won't take a custom order on pictures although he did the Liberty set from goodnightmike's pictures.

Maybe Vik thinks I work for a competitor since I was a bit vocal on the bleeding of the crimson but he is worng as I am the same person who gave him gleaming marks for the 1849 set that he has displayed on his web site.

I guess I won't be ordering any custom sets off of them since they seem not to be on the same page.

I don't have the knight, I copied it off of a web site that had a front and side picture of it.  Yes I really like the 1849 set, it is massive and no cracks in it at all.  Very well done and worth the $349.00. I looked at the Blackjack set and wish that he mad it in the size they played the Sinquefield with which I believe was 3 3/4". Right now I have ebough of large sets and am waiting for the BCC 4" coming from Alan but is probably much in he future...2016 is my guess which is fine since I overbought last year and the first 3 months of this year. I can us ea rest and enjoy what I have right now.  Doesn't stop me collecting books though!!

When you guys quote the prices from Chessbazaar, are these prices final? Do you have to pay extra import duties and taxes once the shipment arrives? I'm especially interested in EU, but I wonder about US as well. The prices you quote are so precise, it would be bad to ruin them with some nasty 30% extra tax...

BTW, can anyone tell me if I am just blind or as a new member I'm not allowed to start a forum thread?

I'm on mobile but at the bottom of page there is a green button post new topic. The prices from CB are inclusive of shipping.

Yeah, I don't have the post new topic button.

I read that the prices include shipping, that's nice. But what happens once this chess set hits the import country, US, UK, Germany...? Do the authorities ask for anything extra to be paid before they release the shipiment to you?

Schachmonkey

No taxes added for us in USA.

TundraMike

No import taxes added for USA.  But I do have to pay state sales tax in WIsconsin. Yea the state does absolutely nothing and I still have to pay state sales taxes on any purchase outside of Wisconsin that I do not pay sales tax on even though the company I buy from is not established in WIsconsin. Makes no sense to me but I do know they get the import records from the Feds and then follow up sometimes 3 years later. Yes, know this for a fact so i pay them with no argument.  The fine is way more than the sales tax, not worth it.

Have you tried from a desktop?

In the USA no. Europe is a different story.

Man_Goose_Clarkeson

I had to pay custom for my CB set. It states on their site that it's included in the price, but I never believed it.

TundraMike

I do not believe they cover VAT taxes which are different than custom charges if your country has any.

3.6" CB Dubrovnik now offered in Ebony!  Now I can wait for one of their sales to get a great price!

Here are some pics of the set. It's quite a nice set, very nicely weighted. It's a little snug on my 2" square Drueke, but it still works.

Think it might look a little nicer on a 2.25" board but still looks great!

Finally found a 2.25" drueke come up for sale at a very good price on eBay. Just snagged it and it should arrive next week. Still loving this ebony/boxwood Dubrovnik set, and can't wait to get it set up on a properly sized board.

Now to figure out what to do with my 2" drueke...

Ace_Club

Here it is on it's new home. The 2.25" board is a much better fit than the 2" board.

Perfect!

Beautiful!!

Excellent!

Congrats, the ebony looks midnight black and really good. Like your Drueke board as well, it seems to be in beautiful condition.

Ace_Club

Thanks.

@D2_To_D8: The board is in great shape, and the 20+ year old patina on it is really nice. Picked it up on ebay for a song. I like this much better than my newer 2" Drueke.

You're welcome Ace, sounds like you got a great deal. The Drueke we have has been used, but we don't want to refinish it with just some of the very minor blemishes that it has. Was one of those ones used in the 1986 US New York open. They really are great boards and they're getting harder and harder to come by due to popularity.
