the comparison pictures are very very interesting indeed. Yes, the repro rook is a little, little disappointing. But the match in all the other pieces is remarkable, and the rook match is very close, esp given the original rook in this version is also a little on the thin side at the top. This repro set is def very very good. I love it. wow. Thanks Gomer and goldendog for your postings.

Happy to say I own a 1852 Jaques... :) 3.5" K, unweighted, pretty good shape (just some broken pawn collars, which I'll have to ship to Alan Dewey for restoration at some point). Fun to play with...
Nice. I can imagine the sense of history you may have when using it. Did someone play over a recent Morphy game with it? and the like.
Even if someone spent long hours using it in play and study all those moons ago, I'd feel it incumbant on me to do the same and pass it along for another generation to do likewise.
As a side note, old go sets do not have the kind of value old sets do. It's the superb unused equipment that commands the yen.
