if i was looking for a new set i think this would be the one i would go for:

it's similar to the fischer spassky one. i can't really justify spending £100 on another set of chess men though, one is quite enough.

Bruch and VicB- So I purchased the Reykjavik Series plastic set- black/natural. It's definitley nice and the price seems ok. Like you, Bruch, I appreciate the historical aspect of this set.

The set is weighted well and the pieces feels solid. The pawns are indeed lighter in weight compared to the rest of the pieces but are in no way likely to easily tip over if bumped. Seems like a great deal for under $20 and nice looking over all. I'd suggest this set as an affordable and attractive solid-weighted set.

    Franquis,

Glad you liked it. I had also recommended it to Bruch and he, as you already know, recommended it as well. Yes, it's nice set. Now if they could just make the pawns a bit heavier ;>

    Happy to help!

One thing I like about this particular set is the knight.  Some sets I've seen recently seem to have knights with really narrow heads - meaning that when you look at them straight on, the head of the knight looks like it has been pinched.  Happily, this is not the case with Reykjavik II.
