I'm hoping someone knows the answer to this: How can I determine the side to move in Fritz without looking at the notation pane. Seeing the notation makes it difficult to play "guess the next move".

It's a bit crude but you can know whos move it is by in any given position by going to >file>new>position setup and here you can check to see who's move it is in the current position and hit cancell to go back to the original position.
I stumbled on the answer today, although it might have been from a recent update. If you look closely at the clocks, the side to move is brighter in color.
