Do you know what wood the original Dubrovnik sets were made in? … I still think the NOJ sets look terrific and have the white and brown colouring that seems consistent with those sets I have seen Fischer pictured with.
According to Ifekali, the original Dubrovnik sets were made out of maple and chestnut with a natural finish. He doesn't specifically say what the later, slightly different version that Fischer used was made from. NoJ use maple and walnut for both versions.

Ya know I'm not sure if walnut was used in the originals, but I do like that the pieces are more of a close match to Bobby's set. I also like that the pieces are natural in that no stain has been used to provide the brown look on the dark pieces and standard maple on the white pieces.
