Possibly, I've used CA many times, most experiance with CA 7.  Just bought CA 9 and have had many troubles getting it to work with Vista, despite help from the developers.

Chess Assistant is amongst other a chess database utility.

Carl, I am sorry to hear about your problems. I had a bad start running CA 9.1 under Vista (now I think/hope it runs OK). I think the key is to download a bat-file from Convekta and to run your PC in "Admin mode". The Developers have probably already told you all about it in more scientific terms. I was just trying to bring some hope....

I talked to Convekta and I did the bat file, killed the UAC, got all the patches, run it only in the administrator account and it seems to be working.   I dislike having to kill UAC and run in the administrator account since I'm often at WiFi hotspots to do updates, etc (its dialup at home).   In addition I got the Total Chess Trainer at the same time and it simply will not work in Vista.  I prefer CA to ChessBase, especially the ability to run engines within the database but this experiance is not making me happy and there is no news (that I've heard), about a CA 9.x or CA 10 that will work properly with CA.

Too bad!! Sorry. I cannot really compare CA to ChessBase. I am a new CA user.

I recently exchanged email with someone at Convekta and they are hoping that CA10 will be released by the end of the year. I decided to hold off on purchasing CA until the release of 10.

After my difficulties I would definitely recommend anyone with Vista put off buying any Convekta product until it has been truly updated for Vista or its successor.    Their workarounds don't.
