Hi,

I've noticed that my local bookstore has Garry's book on the Sicilian for sale (cheapishly). Would anyone recommend this?

(You would think that a book by arguably the best player of all time, about his favourite defence would definitely be worth a punt, but I'm not sure!)

Cheers

Russell

I'd say it would be worth the punt too.  How can you go wrong... really?

What's the title? Are you sure it's by Kasparov? It could be Keene's "Kasparov's Sicilian Strategies". The only book I know where he supposedly helped author was "Sicilian: ... e6 and d6 Systems" But I believe the majority of work was done by his trainer Nikitin. it's a good, solid book but dated.

A forum: A good resource for the Keres Atrtack is "Easy Guide to the Sicilian
Shcevenignen" by Steffen Pederson. Another excellent book on the
Shcevenignen is "Sicilian: ...e6 and ...d6 Systems" by Kasparov & Nikitin.
Although it's a little dated (published 1983) they do a very good job of apparently explaining the ideas behind the Scheveningen. If you do get this book, read the comments with a critical eye, though, as it seems Kaspy doesn't give up his secrets easily, for example....

In the Keres Attack, after the following moves

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e6 6.g4 h6 7.h4 Nc6
8.Rg1 *

Kasparov/Nikitin comment "An advanbce of the Kingside pawn chain with 8...h5 does not, in our opinion, solve Black's opening problems. White retains a spatial advantage and the initaitive..."

Yet the very next year, in game 1 of the first Karpov-Kasparov match.

Which sicilian variation is considered as "Kasparov's " ?  Fischer's would definitely be the najdorf.

xMenace - It's the Kasparov/Nikitin book that I'm looking at. I just wanted a few comments on it as I can't find anything about it on Amazon etc... I think I should go ahead a buy it, as the Sicilian is a system I really want to look into.
