An update on my board. We had to replace the back of the board due to my grandfather damaging it quite badly years ago. Quite interestingly enough, there were several newspapers and a hand drawn map inside. After putting everything back the way we found it, we replaced the old torn board with a newer board. (That looked exactly like the old one, but undamaged) It was very interesting to take a step back in time and see what things were like back in the day in a country like Brazil. But the mystery will remain, where does the map lead?

Maybe the mystery could be a book or a movie! Start writing.

    Hi NTFSBUG:

I also had to replace the back board which was not flat and bent. I removed it from the frame and found that the butterfly wings are pasted onto the glass. So if the glass breaks then the art chess board would be gone forever.

I took it to a glass shop and the owner who I have know for thirty years spent an hour talking and cutting another glass to protect the original. Making sure that it would last. I also purchased 1/8" finished veneer for the back. Refinished the frame and now It hangs on the living room wall. I can take it down and lay it on a table to use and play on it.

I wonder which of my four sons or six grandchildren will inherit this chess board?

    Bye

Those are real butterfly wings? Poor butterflies.

That is very interesting. We noticed the same thing with the wings being pasted on the glass as well. Fortunately the board was in good enough shape that we did not have to do much work to it. But to keep it like new, we keep it in a very safe place in the house.... Great suggestion though! That would be quite interesting. It would make for a great mystery starting in the jungles of Brazil! Any of them have fine taste who takes great care of things and a great enjoyment of chess? Because I would want to know that it would get taken care of. By the way! If you want to sort of see the board, my profile pic is of me with the board. Not sure if you can see it very well.... I am thinking about eventually posting pictures of it. Again, amazing to know that there are more out there! Thanks for sharing yours!

    Hi Again

I went to your profile. I can see the board and the flourencent white squares. I see the frame is thicker, rounder and almost the same color as mine.

I can see white has taken four pawns on the queen side. White has castled. Were you playing someone? Who won?

Take some photos and post them. I enlarged your photo to be able to see it better.

Looks like a fabricated position to me :-P

    Borg:

I don't know but if he was using something like the Evans gambit then he would give away three of the pawns in the opening.

His black bishop could have gone to g5 and backed up to h4.

It is too hard to see the line of pawns in front of the castled king.

    It's all speculation.

Of course it is speculation, but when I look at the left side of the board, I see an awful lot of black pieces in white's camp.  Looks like white is being totally crushed into the bottom right corner of the board and black is dominating the rest.  Looks to me like there is nothing left the think about.

Unfortunately I wrote a comment, left the computer, tried to send it and it did not seem to send! So in case it didn't, I am writing it again. Before I go any further, @BorgQueen. My goodness.... I am so sorry but I cannot believe I did not think of creating that profile first. That is awesome. Now down to business. A while back, I played a girl I am very fond of. The game had lasted a couple hours due to lots of talking and going off on rabbit trails. I did have the upper hand until I had made a major mistake towards the end of the game and had no room for recovery. Now the position that you actually see was a position we were in earlier in the game. When my dad came in the room, looked at the board and thought he saw a four move check mate. My friend had taken a picture of the board so we could go back and try and figure it out after the game because we could not see it. We left it there, and a few days later a photographer came in to take my senior photos. I had it in that position and we both decided it would look great for photos so we just decided to use it. And that is how the picture came to be. Now please forgive me. But I have no idea how to post pictures in the reply. :P

For some reason the bar that has the font size, chess board, font color, got turned off when you have the compatibility on. Lets just say the Win8 Dev Version is still a little clunky. Tongue out I will try getting pics soon.
