Rosewood pieces

Could anyone advise which boards (as in types of wood) would suit rosewood pieces best? I have a cheapish maple / mahogany board which goes well with reddish or black pieces but have my doubts if it goes well with the dark brown of rosewood. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! -dksm

I think that board will do just fine. I used rosewood pieces on a maple/mahogany board for years so I might be a little biased. If you really want a new board I suggest getting one that has dark squares noticeably lighter (or possibly darker) than your rosewood pieces. The pieces won't disappear into the woodwork as easily.

They look fine on my maple walnut board.

Thank you both for the input! I'm actually considering buying a set which exists in both rosewood and stained black and have difficulties deciding which to get. I'm also wondering how resistent to wear and tear said staining actually is.
